Rough Day is a short web series (inspired by the movie Falling Down) about an old-school guy at the end of his rope who goes on a rampage against the millennials of Los Angeles. ShareGrid member, and Cinematographer, Eric Lombart, shared with us how he made it happen!

"The biggest creative challenge in pre-pro was finding locations that we felt worked well for the story and would also give us the biggest bang for the very few bucks that we had. I had barely any crew or lighting equipment for most of the shoot, so taking a few days to scout locations made every bit of difference when it came to increasing production value and staying on schedule.

Had it not been for the scouts, we would have never thought to shoot at a place like the Venice canals, which is one of my favorite locations in the series...and we shot the whole scene in about 20 minutes. All in all, we spent 9 days on principal photography and then 2 days of pickups.

ShareGrid played a major role in this project because I really didn’t want to shoot on a DSLR and, yet, we didn’t have the budget to rent a cinema camera from a traditional rental house. ShareGrid was the perfect solution and all the people I have met through the site have been super friendly."

Eric and his team shot the series on a Canon C300 from ShareGrid member, Thiago (click to see listing).
He also rented a Canon 70-200mm from ShareGrid member, Brennan (click to see listing).

Eric and his crew certainly made a high-quality piece on a low budget. From run-and-gun situations, to low light night scenes, the Canon C300 seemed to be the perfect fit for its low-profile and low-light capabilities.

Since living in LA, I have participated in literally every aspect of the filmmaking process and worked on all kinds of projects from network/cable TV to Youtube to corporate videos to live concert broadcasts and more.
